Abstract

Biodegradable plastics are plastics that will decompose in nature with the help of microorganisms. Biodegradasi of plastics can be achieved by enabling microorganisms in the envirinment to metabolize the molecular structure of plastic films. The use of starch as the main material of plastic manufacturing has great potential because in Indonesia there are different starch crops. In the research, the manufacture of biodegradable plastics using cassava starch, plasticizer sorbitol and orange skin extract. Strach is a natural polymer that can be used in the manufacture of biodegradable plastics because the source is abundant and can be easily degraded. The purpose of this research is to determine the optimum concentration of biodegradable plastic that is made with the addition of orange skin extract to obtain biodegradable plastic that a plastic characteristics that meet the strandards. Orange skin extract concentration varied from 0- 4 mL. The results obtained in the from of a thin sheet of plastic that have been tested that the concentration obtained optimum conditions 1% with water resistance to 14% and a thickness of 0,04 mm with degradation of 13 days.
