Abstract

Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) is wastewater produced from the processing of palm oil industry, whereby POME taken from PT. Sawit Mas Sejahtera. Wastewater treatment using coagulation and flocculation is one of method for teating waste by adding a coagulant. The purpose of this study to know the effect of stirring speed and concentration of coagulant Poly Aluminium Chloride and to know the optimum results on the processing of Palm Oil Mill Effluent. Coagulation process is done by adding variations of concentrations of PAC is 30 gr/L, 40 gr/L, 50 gr/L, 60 gr/L, 70 gr/L, dan 80 gr/L and stirring speed using magnetic stirrer which is divided into two rapid stirring at a speed of 700 rpm for 2 minutes and slow stirring at 300 rpm for 20 minutes which resulted in floc. Coagulation and flocculation process obtained optimum results that the addition of PAC at consentations of 70 gr/L with pH 6,64, COD 149 mg/L, BOD 98,94 mg/L, TSS 16 mg/L, Oil and fats 23,60 mg/L, Total Nitrogen sebesar 46,57, and Color sebesar 56,67 mg/L. The results of the final analysis of POME after coagulation and flocculation process using coagulant PAC already showing results in a accordance with wastewater quality standards for palm oil industry rule number 8 Governor of South Sumatra in 2012 Keywords : POME, PAC, Coagulation and flocculation
