Abstract

The Use of Activated Carbon from Coconut Shell as Adsorbent Metal Pb in SpillWaste of Crude Oil Valeni Agustina, 2014, Pages 39, Tables 17, Figures 31, Appendix 4 The spill waste of crude oil contains many harmful substances, such as toxic and corrosive. One of it is Pb in the oil. In this case the waste need to be treated so that do not pollute the environment. The metal content can be reduced by adsorption method using activated carbon from coconut shell. The preparation of activated carbon from coconut shell consists of sample preparation process, sieving with the of 170 mesh size, activation using Na2CO3, washing and drying. Activated carbon produced from coconut shell has met the standards quality based on SNI 06-3730-1995 with 3.8% of water content; 2.18% of ash content; and the 761.46 mg/g iodine number of adsorption. Standards activated carbon will be contacted with the oil spill waste as much as 100 mL with 5g mass of activated carbon. The results of the optimum adsorption of the activated carbon of spill waste of crude oil is 8% of the concentration of activation with 83,803% adsorption efficiency. Keywords: activated carbon, waste spill oil, Na2CO3, coconut shell
