Abstract

BIODIESEL OFWASTE COOKING OIL AND FRESH PALM DREGS WITH IN SITU TRANSESTERIFICATION PROCESS THE USE OF ZERO FRUIT BUNCH OIL PALM ASH AS CATALYST Herawati Fitriani, 2014, 76 Pages, 26 Table, 30 Picture, 4 Attachments Cooking oil and palm fresh dregs is waste that has not been utilized properly. Usually used cooking oil that are not used will be immediately discarded, while the fresh dregs of palm oil to be used only for animal feed by an industry. Whereas in the cooking oil has high levels of fat (triglycerides) and the oil palm fresh dregs still contained residual oil presses can be used as raw material in the manufacture of biodiesel. Because FFA content contained on the materials used are still below 5% which is 1.61% then the process can be performed using in situ transesterification process without having to perform the vi esterification process first. This study was conducted to determine how the effect of catalyst concentration and composition variations of cooking oil and palm fresh dregs (25:75; 40:60; 50:50; 60:40; 75:25) as well as a comparison against the best quality biodiesel that can be used to produce biodiesel in accordance with SNI 04-7182-2006 standards through in situ transesterification process. The results showed that variations in material composition and catalyst concentration affect the quality of biodiesel produced, because the larger composition of the waste cooking oil biodiesel quality will get better. Comparison of fresh cooking oil and palm oil residue that can best be used to produce biodiesel is 75 grams 25 grams of cooking oil palm fresh dregs with a catalyst concentration of 15 grams which has a volume of 70 ml of biodiesel, biodiesel crystal clear color, density 0.863 gr/ml, levels free fatty acids at 0.448%, amounting to 4.634 cSt viscosity, calorific value of 9445.45 cal/gr, and a flash point of 150 ° C, where the values have met quality standards in accordance with SNI 04-7182-2006 Biodiesel.
