Abstract

Utilization of Waste Tire Rubber and Plastic PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) using used oil as a solvent Being Asphalt Synthetic Fitria Nirmala, 2014. 56 Pages, 10 Tables, 23 pictures, 4 Enclosure Highway construction is one of the priority sectors of development in transportation. In Indonesia, the type of asphalt used is hard penetration bitumen 60/70. Increased consumption in the use of asphalt makes Indonesia had to import it from another country. Therefore, in this study conducted by making use of materials such as synthetic asphalt tire rubber waste, plastic PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and used oil as a solvent which is also an alternative utilization of the waste. This study aims to determine the exact composition in the manufacture of synthetic asphalt and know the characteristics of the synthetic asphalt compared with hard penetration bitumen 60/70 of Indonesian National Standard. The results of this study indicate that the used oil can not be used as a solvent to make synthetic asphalt compliant hard penetration bitumen 60/70. From the research that produced the synthetic asphalt is a 120 penetration bitumen that can be used on roads with low traffic volumes and areas with cold weather climates. The optimum composition used to obtain synthetic asphalt penetration of 120 are 300 grams of waste rubber tires, plastic PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) 75 grams and 125 ml used oil with a value of 142 mm penetration, ductility 0.6 cm, 238  C flash point, softening point 100  C and a specific gravity of 1.28 g / ml.
