Abstract

MAKING PULP FROM RAW MATERIAL SANSEVIERIA USING SODA METHOD (Kiki Maria Nababan, 2014, 46 Pages, 7 Tables, 11 Figures, 4 Attachments) Pulp is the raw material for making paper and chemical compounds of cellulose derivatives. Pulp can be made from various types of wood, bamboo, and grass pulp fiber separation is the result of fibrous raw materials (wood and non-wood) through the process of making either mechanically, semichemically, and chemically. find for alternative raw materials are needed to reduce dependence on wood pulp. Sansevieria is one of the plants that contain cellulose fibers is high enough, so that it can be used raw material in the manufacture of paper pulp as alternative raw materials of non-wood pulp. Sansevieria has the same structure as the Pineapple Leaves cellulose fiber that is high enough so that it can be used as materials for pulp. The aim of these research are to know the effect of cooking condition to yield, cellulose content and kappa number and effect of the concentration of NaOH (5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%) with cooking temperature (65oC, 80oC and 95oC) using the soda method. This process to get the pulp begins with soaking with acid solution (nitric acid) and ending with cooking using an alkaline solution (sodium hydroxide). Results cooking a raw pulp and black liquor Soda method is one of the chemical processes that use NaOH as solvents. The results of this study found that the best cooking conditions in this study was the concentration of NaOH 15% and cooking temperature 80% with 49,102% rendement, 83,39 % of cellulose content and 11,406 of Kappa Number.
