Abstract

Fire is an accident that is difficult to detect, so the author tries to make a fire detector using MQ-5 sensor as fire detector and microcontroller ATMega 16 as a controller. MQ-5 sensor has a ability to detect if there’s or not a smoke that happens to somewhere. Sensor will detect the smoke’s content that is around MQ-5 sensor. On normal condition, the resistance in sensor is high and it will be low when sensor detects smoke’s content around sensor. The change of resistance from high to low on sensor will be caused a rising voltage level at output sensor.Besides that sensor also has a heater is used to clean the room from a combination of outside air and sensor can detect effectively. Sensor will work when there’s smoke that is detected in the room and the smoke was detected in the form of analog data that acts as the output sensor. The output sensor is connected to the microcontroller ATMega 16 as an input ADC then the value of the smoke is detected will be displayed on the LCD. When smoke is detected over 95 (according to the program in microcontroller ATMega 16), the microcontroller ATMega 16 will instruct to GSM SIM900A module to sending a short message service to handphone owner home that the sensor MQ-5 has detected the smoke that indicated a fire will occur.
