Abstract

The purpose of these research are to produce oxalic acid from bagasse. the material of this research is bagasse, bagasse contains carbohydrate one of celulose. The using method of oxidation carbohydrate with nitric acid. The oxidation process with nitric acid, matters the contain carbohydrate changed to oxalic acid. The oxidation carbohydrate with nitric acid produce oxalic acid that high purity. The research use variation time of reaction are 70 minutes and 90 minutes, temperature constant control 75℃, the concentration of nitric acid are 25%, 35%, 45%, 55% dan 65% with volume constant 250 ml. The best result of this research from 25 gr bagasse produce 2,25 gr oxalic axid has 12,11% yield, by using 65% nitric acid with volume solvent is 250 ml and time of reaction 90 minutes. The influence from the concentrations of nitic acid and time of reaction is higher concentration of nitric acid and time of reaction, so the product will be increase. The quality of oxalic acid has melting point 186,8℃ and oxalic acid has white colour crystals. Keyword: Bagasse, oxalic acid, oxidation
