Abstract

This research aims to analyze the types of slang words used in the movie Cruella (2021) by applying Allan and Burridge’s (2006) classification, which categorizes slang into five types: fresh and creative, flippant, imitative, acronym, and clipping. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected from the film’s script and spoken dialogue. The findings reveal a total of 28 slang expressions used in the movie, distributed across four categories: flippant (46.4%), fresh and creative (42.9%), clipping (10.7%), and imitative (3.6%). Acronym slang was not found in the data. The predominance of flippant and fresh slang indicates that slang in Cruella serves not only as informal expression but also as a tool to express social identity, group cohesion, and character development within the cultural and historical context of 1970s London. This study contributes to sociolinguistic research by offering insights into the social functions of non- standard language in popular media.
