Abstract

This study aimed to find out students' perceptions of ChatGPT in English learning. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative method. The participants were 70 second-semester students from the English Department at Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya. The data were collected using a closed questionnaire through Google Forms. The questionnaire had five statements with a five-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, and mean score. The results showed that students have a positive perception of ChatGPT in English learning, with a mean score of 3.88. Most students agree that ChatGPT helps them save time, find information from different fields, understand learning materials, complete English tasks, and support their learning activities. These results indicated that students viewed ChatGPT as a useful tool that supports their English learning by helping them understand learning materials, complete assignments, and access information more efficiently.
