Abstract

The Utilization of Leather Waste Cassava and Glycerol from cooking oil in Making Biodegradable Plastics: Effect of heating temperature Characteristics Of Biodegradable Plastic Reta Triprima Nindianti, 2014. 35 pages, 3 tabels, 10 pictures, 4 attachments. Along the growth of population and industry, the using of non-biodegradable plastics have increased that causing environmental pollution. This is due to the time required for degradable plastics is naturally is very long. Therefore it is necessary to find an alternative that can be replace non-biodegradable plastic. Development of manufacturing technology of biodegradable plastics made from natural is one way to solve environmental problems. The biodegradable plastic is a natural polymer that is easily decomposed by microorganisms. In this research the using of biodegradable plastics manufacturing cassava starch and plasticizer glycerin from waste cooking oil by blending method. This study research aims to determine the optimum heating temperature on gelatinization process to obtain biodegradable plastics that have characteristics meet the standards. Temperature variation used is 700C, 750C, 800C, 850C and 900C. Produced the optimum temperature to determine the thickness and water content in biodegradable plastics is 750C with a value of 0.19 mm and 16.92%. While the time required for degradable plastics since 15 day with percent residual is 70,00 % at a temperature of 750C. Keyword : Biodegradable Plastic, Cassava Starch, Glycerin.
