Abstract

ABSTRACT THE APPLICATION OF BICYCLE DYNAMO AS RECHARGER ON HANDPHONE CHARGER (2014 : xiv + 36 pages + Bibliography + Attachments) ENGGAR KUSUMA 0611 3032 0200 Department of Electrical Engineering Study Program of Electronic Engineering State Polytechnic of Sriwijaya Mobile phone battery and Lead Acid battery are secondary battery that the electrical is discontinue characteristic, so it needs to recharge by applying electric current from PLN to reverses the chemical reacting that occur during discharge or when the battery is used. But in several condition, the electricity from PLN not always available, for example when floooding, when we are in the beach and in other emergencies. To solve it is charger designed using 12V 5,5W bicycle dynamo. By turning the pedals are connected to the bicycle dynamo shaft, magnets in dynamo would spin around the coil and generates a magnetic force lines changing. Those changing will causes electromotive force that will be rectified so that in can be used to charge the battery. There are 3 types of charging condition, first is 6V Lead Acid recharge, 3,7V 1,5Ah mobile phone charging and recharge, and the last is mobile phone charging using Lead Acing battery as a source. Based on measurement results, the Vout generated by bicycle dynamo is only 2V, so there is unavailable recharge. When in recharge and charging conditions, the Vout = ±4Volt with capacity of current is 0,35-0,42Ah, so it takes a long time to do the charging. The size of dynamo output voltage depends on the number of rounds, if there are so many rounds, dynamo output voltage will high and vice versa.
