This research was conducted to find out the students’ argumentative essays using Toulmin model. This research used the descriptive quantitative method. The techniques of collecting the data used essays by Toulmin model (1979). The methodology of this research using mix method. The population was sixth-semester students in the English Department of Sriwijaya Polytechnic in 2019. There were 30 essays to analyze using Toulmin Model. The result revealed that Toulmin model in the argumentative essay used by most students are claim and ground. Then the elements that students have not understood are using the four elements of the Toulmin Model, namely warrant, backing, qualifier, and rebuttal. This study provides understanding, criticism, and improvement of arguments. It is hoped to be useful by a wide range of people and especially those who are affected by arguments such as academic writers, students, teachers and debate adjudicators.
